ARTIST STATEMENT
What inspires me to paint? Many things actually, but usually I will see something in my environment that I want to capture on canvas. Riding the subway, walking down the street, looking out of my hotel room in a strange city. All of these things can inspire me. I sometimes take what I see and change it in some way to capture a particular feeling or aspect of the scene. I might focus on one thing in particular zoning in on a particular activity or moment in time.

I like to think that I take things that people might see every day and capture something special in that everyday scene. I also like to portray scenes that might lead people to question what is happening, leaving some type of mystery within the painting. This allows the viewer to place themselves in the painting coming to their own conclusions about what is happening.

I am also attracted to the way light plays on buildings or even the shadows in the subway. Walking down the street and going from light to shadow and back again, I am interested in how that makes me feel. I like the way the shadows and light can create their own isolation or openness, depending on how they fall in your path or from your point of view. I hope you enjoy my work.
